Maximiliaan's House of Grand Pianos, Inc. has been one of the leading resources in the world for
specially designed grand pianos. This was acknowledged by MMR Magazine, one of the largest trade magazines to the $8
bn p/year music product industry, in their SEPTEMBER 2005 issue, which featured an 11-page cover story and interview
on our company's activities in the past and the near future:

"New York City's MAXIMILIAAN's: He's been a sky-diver, Ironman competitor, and lived with the Australian aboriginees.
But Maximiliaan Ruttens current passion is to restore the art casepiano to the prominence it once enjoyed"

Since 1992 Maximiliaan's House of Grand Pianos has become
the world’s
premier resource for unique, vintage and historically important
art-case pianos.
The New York Times called our company an 'art-case piano
wonderland' and that is exactly what we are.
I invite you to browse through our site and discover the most beautiful
pianos ever made, many of which are available for sale. Since the
inception of our company, we have strived and succeeded in setting
the highest standards in the industry for the restoration and refinishing
of each instrument. They are, without exception, delivered in concert-ready
condition.
I have received great pleasure over the years from the revival
of the beauty and the glory of this lost page in art history. For
us, it is truly a blessing to be able to do something so unique.
I hope you will allow me to feast your eyes and muse your ears
as you enjoy the aesthetic and musical beauty of these gems,
these icons of Western culture, these symbols of artistic accomplishment.
I welcome your comments per email.
Warmest Regards,
Maximiliaan

Architecture is Frozen Music
The award-winning piano designed
by Alexander Gorlin, AIA,
for the First International Piano Design Competition, 2002
|

|
"As part of the 10th anniversary of my company, I have been
looking for a way to show the world the kind of work we can do
with pianos. By organizing the First International Piano Design
Competition, in 2002, I realized we would submit ourselves to the
fantasy and imagination of designers and architects worldwide. It
was exactly the kind of challenge I like."
"Alexander Gorlin has designed 'Architecture is Frozen
Music'
(after a quote by Goethe), true to his signature style which
combines the traditional values in architecture within a modern
composition and counterpoint. The design is a free interpretation
on the art movement 'The Style', from my native country
the
Netherlands. The architectural influences of Rietveld en
LeCorbusier are evident, the overall composition reminiscent of a
late painting by Mondrian.
"Over the past 10 years, I have been challenged to position the
art case piano on a fine line between form and function. These
pianos keep surprising and fascinating us, because they never are
what they seem to be: neither just musical instruments, nor just
pretty to look at. The debate about the tension between aesthetics
and functionality has been raging since Plato first defined the theme.
To be standing on a fine line that threads throughout the history
of Western civilization, is exactly the kind of excitement I
like"
